When God Builds A Church

Bob Russell (Author): Growing up in northern Pennsylvania, Bob Russell dreamed of returning to his hometown to become a high-school basketball coach. But prospects for the future began to change when, during his senior year of high school, Russell felt called to enter the ministry. He enrolled in Cincinnati Bible Seminary and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies. At the age of 22, Russell became the pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. Over thirty years later, that small congregation of 125 members has become one of the largest churches in America with approximately 14,000 people attending weekend worship services each week. Russell is now the senior minister with a church staff of 275 employees. Russell has written ten books to date. His most recent titles are When God Builds a Church (Howard Publishing, available July 2000), Life Preservers and Money: A User's Manual. Russell's weekly syndicated radio broadcast, "The Living Word," is broadcast on more than 30 radio stations, and Russell also has a weekly column in The Lookout Magazine. Russell is also a regular contributor to Leadership Magazine and a member of the magazine's board of advisors. Bob Russell and his wife Judy have been married for 34 years. They have two married sons who live in Louisville and are active at Southeast Christian Church. They have three grandchildren. Bob Russell loves to play golf and is an avid University of Louisville basketball fan. Rusty Russell (Co-Author): Rusty is an associate minister at Southeast Christian Church where his father, Bob Russell, is senior minister. As a member of the preaching staff, Rusty works behind the scenes in sermon preparation, research and writing. He is a graduate of Cincinnati Bible College and is pursuing a Masters of Divinity at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before coming to the staff of Southeast Christian Church Rusty served as a preaching minister, teacher and Christian school administrator.
