When God Answers Prayer
Few pastors have witnessed more consistent, dramatic answers to prayer than Bob Russell has. In four decades of ministry he's seen more lost people saved, sick people restored, threatened homes unified, worship services anointed, barren wombs opened, money raised and buildings built than most would ever dream of. So, like his previous book, his new one entitled When God Answers Prayer, is built upon simple scriptural truths and simple true stories from his experience in ministry.
Bob Russell's story began in northern Pennsylvania, where he dreamed of returning to his hometown to become a high-school basketball coach. But prospects for the future began to change when, during his senior year of high school, Russell felt called to enter the ministry-an answer to his mother's prayers for his life. He enrolled in Cincinnati Bible Seminary and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies.
At the age of 22, Russell became the pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. Over thirty years later, that small congregation of 125 members has become one of the largest churches in America with approximately 17,000 people attending weekend worship services each weekend. Russell is now the senior minister at Southeast, alongside a staff of more than 300 employees. It is through the church's activities, and through the members of Southeast, that Russell has gleaned many of his stories of answered prayer. And through his many years at the church, this pastor has come to believe more firmly than ever in one motto: prayer works.
Russell has written eleven books to date. His most recent titles include When God Answers Prayer (Howard Publishing, July 2003) and When God Builds a Church (Howard Publishing, 2000). Russell's weekly syndicated radio broadcast, "The Living Word," is broadcast on more than 30 radio stations, and he also writes a weekly column for The Lookout Magazine. Russell is a regular contributor to Leadership Magazine and a member of the magazine's board of advisors.
Bob Russell and his wife Judy have been married for 34 years. They have two married sons who live in Louisville and are active at Southeast Christian Church. They have four grandchildren. Bob Russell a golfer, an avid University of Louisville basketball fan, and a believer in the power of prayer.
