Stephen M. Miller
Author of The Complete Visual Bible
Stephen M. Miller grew up in Akron, Ohio, the first child of Clyde and Virginia Miller. He graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in news journalism and from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City with a master’s degree in religious education.
He began his writing career working as a news reporter and editor for daily newspapers in Ohio before moving to Kansas City to pursue a seminary degree in biblical studies. During seminary and afterward, he worked as an editor at the Church of the Nazarene International Headquarters, writing and editing magazines, books, and curriculum used in churches of many denominations in the Wesleyan theological tradition. After about a dozen years there, he resigned to become a fulltime freelance writer.
Though he has written on a wide variety of topics for many publishers, ranging from Woman’s Day magazine to Reader’s Digest Books to the Mayo Clinic, he has spent most of the past decade writing about the Bible. Miller teamed up with Robert V. Huber, a former Reader’s Digest editor, to write The Bible: A History, for Lion Publishing of England. The book won the non-fiction book of the year award in 2004 from England’s Christian broadcasting media.
Miller’s next award-winner, which turned out to be a bestseller as well, was Who’s Who and Where’s Where in the Bible, for Barbour Publishing. It won the 2006 non-fiction book of the year award from Christian retailers. It also spent most of the year on the Christian bestseller list.
This book, illustrated with color pictures and written in a magazine style laced in humor, convinced Barbour Publishing there was a market for easy-reading Bible reference books.
He lives in the Kansas City area with his wife, Linda Miller, a pediatric nurse. They have two grown children, Rebecca, also a pediatric nurse, and Brad, co-owner of an online marketing firm: Sheppix.
